Desprat Saint-Verny

Founded in 1950, Saint-Verny is the only co-operative in the Puy-du-Dôme, and takes its name from Saint-Verny, the 15 year old son of a winegrower who was the son of a wine grower who was the victim of a ritual murder in 1287. Miracles were said to have happened in the presence of the body a of a young martyr. With 200ha of vines the winery vinifies half of all commercial vineyard plantings in the département. The vineyards are mostly planted with Gamay and Pinot Noir, whilst the Chardonnay is the only permitted white varietal.
