This is the BIG one - a country that is home to arguably the most famous names in the Wine World, with several centuries of building a reputation for culture, history, quality and structure, not to mention the idea of terroir as a principle for wine quality and individuality. Names such as Champagne, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Chablis, Chateauneuf-du-Pape to name but a few, gives you an idea why France is considered the benchmark for almost every other wine region in the World.
Blessed with a great variety of soils, climates, geography, geology, history and culture, layered with knowledge of food, agriculture as well as appreciators, it is easy to see why France is home to every great wine style in the World. Many are copied in other regions throughout the World of Wine, but winemakers and drinkers continue to use French classic wines as the gauge for quality comparisons at almost every level. We applaud them!
