As a wine and spirit merchant we have been supplying many of the Uk’s best known and prestigious hotels, restaurants caterers and pubs for over 100 years, and today count many Michelin starred establishments as customers. We also supply the board rooms of top companies and offer En Primeur, Fine Wine and cellar guidance to a core of Private clients, with our Bonded warehouse being a key part of the business as it allows us to purchase and hold large stocks of Fine and Rare wines shipped direct from the estates themselves and cellar these wines under optimum conditions.

You can be rest assured that we care about our customers and will do everything possible to ensure that every step of the process, from ordering to final delivery, will be overseen and checked to ensure accuracy, safety, punctuality and availability.


We have a fantastic website ordering system which is made unique to your business and is available 24hrs a day, 365 days of the year. When you log onto your dedicated ordering page, it will have all the information needed to ensure your order is accurate, with prices, codes and even images of the products you currently list for House of Townend, thus eliminating any error and making ordering simple and speedy. From that page you can also see previous orders, view your basket as you compile your order, print off product information sheets (great for compiling wine knowledge and using as a training tool), see special offers as well as checking availability and having access to the full 3,000 product range we offer. The page is loaded with features and information, all of which has been designed to be of benefit to your business.

We also take phone orders through our dedicated office team at Melton (01482 638899). Unlike many companies within the drinks trade, we pride ourselves on our ability to guide and help our customers, and all the team have undergone WSET wine training and will be happy to help you in any way. This service is available Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm. Orders can also be submitted by email.


House of Townend have a large and professional logistics team who operate from the main cellars at Melton. With a large fleet of liveried vans, we delivery to customers right across the North and Midlands of England, from the Scottish Borders down to Peterborough in the South, and across to The Cotswolds and upto and including the Lake District. Outside of these areas we use dedicated carriers who have been chosen for the care and high levels of service they offer. All wines and spirits are sealed in secure, high quality boxes and dispatched on a 48hr service within Mainland UK (some areas of the Highlands will differ).

When you place your order it is checked, picked and then checked again to ensure we minimise mistakes. If a product is unavailable you will receive notification and offered an alternative or be given a future shipping date if known. When your delivery arrives on a House of Townend van, the driver will put the order where you require it and check the delivery with you personally to make certain all is correct.

When it comes to selling wine, having staff that are knowledgeable and confident about the wines that they are selling is fundamental.

We know that the world of wine can be an intimidating one for anybody entering in to it so as part of our wholesale relationships, one of the most valuable services that we offer is bespoke staff training built around your wine list.

Working with your dedicated Regional Sales Manager we can create a training plan to be delivered to you and your staff. Our team offer expert advice from putting together wine lists and how to sell wine, to helping with food and wine matching to suit your menu. We also have specification sheets available for all of our wines so your team will always have something to refer back to even when we’re not there.

Working with you to develop your wine lists and training your staff will ensure that your business is a great place to buy top quality and unique wines. However, we also know that your customers are interested in developing their personal wine knowledge.

To this end, our wine team are happy to host events for you that will focus on getting your customers to taste wines that they would not ordinarily try and expand their wine knowledge about grapes, regions and producers. Whilst these events are informative we also know that it is important to keep it relaxed and informal.

We see our talented designers as an extension of your business so we will work with you to make sure that each job is done to suit your specific needs, and to the quality that will demonstrate your desire for selling top of the range products. We don’t use templates so you can also be confident that your wine list is unique, innovative and original.

Along with our wine list service, our design team will also create any point of sale items you might need to help promote sales. We can supply a wide range of seasonal and activity based point of sale material to keep your drinks offering fresh and relevant.
