One of the most famous names in Alsace, Famille Hugel was founded in 1639 and is still 100% family owned and managed by the 12th consecutive generation today. The family owns 30 hectares in Riquewihr in prime sites, more than half of which are Grand Cru, planted with only the noble grape varieties of Alsace. The winemaking is now under the watchful eye of Marc Hugel. The Hugel family were also the pioneers of late-harvest Alsace wines, drafting a law enshrining their production in 1984.

Hand harvested grapes after a coll and long growing season giving this unique dry wine great finesse and unequalled intensity. The grapes are taken in small tubs to the press which are filled by gravitiy without any pumping or other mechanical intervention. They are then fermented in temperature-controlled barrels or vats (at 18 degrees centigrade - 24 DC).
