A delicious Aussie red! Shiraz has long been Coriole’s principle variety and was first planted on the estate in 1919. The first sangiovese vines were planted at Coriole in 1983 and are now the oldest sangiovese vineyards in the country. These two varieties blend harmoniously together; shiraz provides richness and concentration and sangiovese provides beautiful red fruit and savoury texture.

Coriole Vineyards

Coriole was founded by Hugh and Molly Lloyd in 1967. The Estate is still owned by the Lloyd family and is now managed by Mark and Paul Lloyd. The Estate is situated in the undulating hills of the densely planted McLaren Vale region just within sight of the sea and less than an hour from Adelaide. The original farmhouses were built in 1860 and are now the epicentre of the garden and cellar door at the winery. The original vineyards were planted immediately after the first world war. Shiraz is the great tradition of McLaren Vale going back over 150 years, and is the major variety planted on the estate. Coriole was founded in 1967 and the first wine released was the 1970 Claret (Shiraz). Coriole has been an Australian pioneer of Sangiovese and Italian varieties since 1985.

The nose shows red plum and cherry with wild thyme and bay leaf, the palate is rich and succulent, showing more red fruit with some lovely mulberry, blackberry and savoury spice characters. The wine is persistent and concentrated, and the flavours linger long.
Try with roast duck with sweet spiced satsuma plum sauce and blanched Asian greens.
