Coriole Vineyards

Coriole was founded by Hugh and Molly Lloyd in 1967. The Estate is still owned by the Lloyd family and is now managed by Mark and Paul Lloyd. The Estate is situated in the undulating hills of the densely planted McLaren Vale region just within sight of the sea and less than an hour from Adelaide. The original farmhouses were built in 1860 and are now the epicentre of the garden and cellar door at the winery. The original vineyards were planted immediately after the first world war. Shiraz is the great tradition of McLaren Vale going back over 150 years, and is the major variety planted on the estate. Coriole was founded in 1967 and the first wine released was the 1970 Claret (Shiraz). Coriole has been an Australian pioneer of Sangiovese and Italian varieties since 1985.

Dark red in colour. On the nose aromas of redcurrant, berries and cassis notes. Fruit flavours are complemented by dried herb and savoury spice. A wonderful rich and mouth filling wine.
Try with rack of lamb with a rosemary crust.
Now sourced from three vineyards, two at Coriole and one at the base of the foothills, the Nero wines have really established themselves. The fruit is handpicked, then destemmed resulting in whole berries. These are then cold soaked for four days before they are brought back to temperature and allowed to ferment naturally. The must is over seeded with yeasts chosed to lift the natural aromatics of the variety. After a brief spell in seasoned oak, the wine is bottled at about 6 months of age. No mains water is used, all water on the property is recyled, rain and bore. Viticulture and winemaking processes are achieved with minimal intervention, with a move to organic viticulture in place.
