Poças

In 1918, a few months before the Armistice, Manoel Domingues Poças Júnior, who had been born in the heart of the Port Wine hustle and bustle, decided to establish his own company. Manoel Poças was 30 years old and he had some experience in this business. With his uncle, he created a company to sell grape spirits to large Port Wine shippers. Soon afterwards he opened a head office in Vila Nova de Gaia, where they remain to this day. Today, with three quintas in the best winemaking areas of the Douro Demarcated Region, Poças ensures its total control over the quality of its wines and the family is more involved than ever before.

An intense, almost opaque ruby colour, revealing concentration and depth. On the nose, beautiful notes of ripe berries and forest fruits stand out, accompanied by nuances of dark cherries, liquorice, and subtle white pepper. On the palate it is full-bodied, yet balanced, with a silky texture supported by good acidity and ripe, polished tannins. The structure is refined, harmonious, and profoundly flavourful, lingering in a persistent, and very elegant finish.
Ideal with grilled or roasted savoury beef and lamb dishes.
Matured in new French “Allier” oak casks (300 Litres) for 12 months.

Wine Enthusiast 91 points “Aged in new wood, the wine, with its black fruit aroma and spicy backdrop to tannins and succulent berry fruits, is generous and full.”
