André van Rensburg

Richard Kelly describes André van Rensburg as "The greatest winemaker in the world." He has been the winemaker at Vergelegen in Stellenbosch since 1998 - where all employees retire on their 60th birthday. André van Rensburg's signature red grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot but he also produces with Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot.
A complex but harmonious bouquet. On the nose Mushroom, black and red berries, raspberry, tobacco and cassis. Soft and elegant mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft tannins. A lingering finish with a touch dried herbs coming through at the end.
Drink with Steak pie or ox cheeks
The Wine is aged in French barriques, 50% new to have maximum control over how much oak the wine can take on. An expertly blended wine.
