Domaine Joseph Voillot

This domaine has been producing wine now for five generations, but it is since the present owner, Jean Pierre Charlot, son-in-law of Joseph Voillot, took control that it has moved into the league of serious wine producers. The domaine consists of 10ha of vineyards, with holdings in the top vineyards of both Volnay and Pommard, including some prized sites in several 1er Crus. The grapes are partially destemmed and the wines matured in oak barrels (20-35% new) for 12-18 months.
Produced from 4 plots, covering approximately 2 hectares, the vineyards are situated on the lower slopes in the village of Volnay. The vines average 38 years old, planted in the lieux-dits of Longbois, Luret, Petits Prés and Grandes Terres. There is no new oak used in the vinification of this wine, with barrels between one to 4 years old used. Intensely rich and jammy on the nose, the palate is delicious, succulent and fruit packed. The texture is so velvety and there is an amazing purity, with oozing cassis and soft silky tannins.
A delicious accompaniement to turkey and chicken dishes.
