Les Vignes Préphylloxeriques 2011 Saint Mont AOC

"Les Vignes Préphylloxériques"” is a wine which symbolises the rich ampelographic diversity of the Pyrenean foothills and the Saint Mont Appellation. It is the result of the ever-passionate work of winegrowers who have fought to preserve the exceptional plant heritage.Thousands of years ago when the valley was covered by the ocean, layers of sand were deposited on the plateau and then unceremoniously jumbled up during the formation of the Pyrenees. This unusual terroir has nourished and protected its vines for over a hundred and fifty years, its sandy texture preventing the phylloxera insect from being able to burrow in the soil and thus reach the vine’s roots. Spared by the ravaging insect, this vineyard managed to survive the nineteenth-century phylloxera blight.

Tasting Notes

Behind its deep red colour, the wine expresses notes of impeccably preserved ripe fruits. It presents a surprising but striking structure. The tannins bring the silky touch that only vines of a certain age can. Balance is maintained throughout the generous palate which evolves into a harmonious finish.
