An Australian Semillon from a family winery in the Clare Valley that is starting to develop some lovely bottle aged characters.

Mitchell Wines

Jane and Andrew Mitchell run the winery on the Mitchell family property in the western hills of South Australia’s Clare Valley in the picturesque Sevenhill region. Andrew was born on the estate and after a brief foray into economics returned with Jane, a former nurse, to establish the winery in 1975. Their home and winery started life as an old sandstone apple store. The vineyard practices are ‘Old Style’ farming with minimal intervention, no chemicals, no irrigation and biodynamic treatments. There are four vineyards at an altitude of between 300 and 450 meters, the vines age between 5 and 50 years old. Today they are joined by their son Angus.
Pale green-gold in colour, the wine has a delicate spicy nose with citrus and lemongrass aromas. The palate is delicate but mouth filling and the fruit flavours are long and sustained, with notes of lemon and buttered toasted. Drinking really well right now, but still has some life ahead of it.
We always choose to drink this wine with roast loin of cod with a pea and mint puree.
