The vineyard contains ancient vines, up to 90 years old on 1 parcel. Vinification sees 20% whole bunch ferment and aging in 25% new oak for one year. An explosion of exotic red fruits, soothing, polished tannins and an underlay of rusticity giving an added dimension. A great expression of the terroir of this appellation.

Domaine Bachelet-Monnot

This relatively young domaine was established in 2005 by brothers Marc and Alex Bachelet along with their father Jean François and Uncle Monnot. Situated in the village of Dezize-lès-Maranges, southwest of Santenay, the domaine consists of 10ha of owned vineyards as well as a further 10 on long-term lease, covering the appellations of Santenay, Maranges and Puligny Montrachet. This is a star domaine on the rise. The vineyards are farmed organically with strict de-budding to reduce the yields, whilst the winemaking philosophy is very much one of non-intervention. No battonage, only a small use of new oak, with the introduction of larger oak barrels in 2012, and long ageing in the barrel which gives great stability to the wines. We are very taken with the white wines of this domaine which offer great depth and finesse.
The bouquet is intense, ripe, smoky and powerful. The palate is equally full, almost brooding with layers of sweet cherry fruit, raspberry coulis and confiture, equally balanced by a tight minerality and quenching freshness. The oak is careful and underpins the fruit and texture perfectly. A beautifully crafted wine.
