Guerrieri Rizzardi Azienda Agricola

In 1649 Carlo Rizzardi from Toscolano Maderno arrived in Valpolicella and bought the property of Pojega with the nearby vineyards of Calcarole and the estate of Rovereti. He built the cellar of Pojega. In 1913 Carlo Rizzardi married Giuseppina Guerrieri of Bardolino and the labels of the Guerrieri and the Rizzardi Wines were joined and from then on sold under a unique name: Guerrieri Rizzardi (first label 1914). The most ancient traces of grapevine cultivation in Valpolicella date back to the 5th century B.C. The vineyards are positioned in Negrar in the “classico zone”, a cluster of small valleys, where vines, olives, and cherries thrive. An excellent climate influenced by the mountains and nearby lake Garda.
Lifted aromatic fresh blackberry and dark cherry on the nose, with oak, sweet spice. Concentrated with a sweet, ripe, blackberry fruit profile. Long and multi-layered finish.
Red meat, roast venison, curry based dishes. Beef stroganoff. Braised beef. Cheese: aged grana padano or monte veronese or pienza's pecorino.
Most of the vines in this single vineyard are over 25 years of age. Meticulous hand selection is carried out in the vineyard and the bunches are placed directly in the drying boxes for 3 1/2 months. Long slow fermentation for one month (20°C-25°C) followed by malolactic fermentation in oak. Maturation: 12 months in 5hl oak barrels and 24 months in 25hl oak barrels. Limited production of 10,000 numbered bottles.
