De Angeles
Just off the main drag in Vistalba, a prime location that is said to have the perfect combination of Luján de Cuyo and Uco Valley characteristics, you’ll find one of Mendoza’s prettiest fincas, dotted with olive and fruit trees in a manner reminiscent of Tuscany’s lovely foothills; a comparison first made by early immigrants in the 1880’s. This glorious setting is home to De Angeles Viña 1924, whose vines were planted over a century ago. Owner Guillermo Barbier and Winemaker Juan Manuel Gonzalez are the team behind these frankly stunning, tiny-production wines. De Angeles is a small estate in the most westerly and highest altitude part of Luján in Mendoza’s famous ‘Zona Primera’ and there are no ambitions to grow or source grapes from anywhere else. And these wines are amongst the best we have ever tasted from anywhere in Argentina: elegant, with beautiful purity and concentration, and utterly true to their traditional origins.
