Since Chanel took over in 1996, the vineyard at Canon has undergone significant restructuring, and the newer plantings are now fully mature. Located just southwest of Saint-Émilion, the estate has 34 hectares under vine, with 24 hectares used for the grand vin.
Aromas of crushed black cherry, wild raspberry and violet followed by more subtle layers of graphite, fennel and damp stone. The palate is remarkably poised. Silky yet taut with finely powdered tannins carrying waves of red and blue fruit across a mineral laced core. Hints of iris, cocoa, cracked pepper and chalk emerge gradually giving the wine both energy and restraint. There is a quiet intensity here, driven by purity, tension and extraordinary persistence. The finish lingers with stony freshness and a delicate edge that reflects Canon’s limestone soils.
