Leoville Barton is planted on a large gravel bank with 47 hectares planted to 72% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot and 8% cabernet franc. Average age for the vines is 35 years; the vineyards are hard pruned to reduce yields, thereby giving a richness and brooding power that makes Leoville Barton sought after and long lived.

Château Leoville Barton

This Château is always one of the best selling wines, due to its consistent high quality and the long standing commitment by the Barton family to maintain a sensible pricing policy. The vineyards are intensely planted with 9,100 vines per ha. Aged for 18 months in 60% new oak, this is a balanced and impressive claret, very much in the Leoville style.
Whilst 2004 was overshadowed by a great 2005 in typical Leoville style the 2004 shows ripe red fruits, soft and subtle tannins and a very fine balance. Drinking well now this opens sublimely in the glass to reveal both richness and pedigree.
Great with hearty stews and casseroles, or good hard cheeses.
