Native of the Loire where it produces high quality dry wines, Chenin Blanc is the basis of the famous whites: Vouvray, Anjou, Quarts de Chaume and Saumur. Gives nervy, intense wine, honey-like when very ripe but always with high acidity so it ages well. In other areas it is a very good blending grape. Called Steen in South Africa and their most-planted grape. Many countries use it as a blending grape for generic table wines. Chenin Blanc wines can be pleasant, with melon, peach, spice and citrus.
