Simon Hackett grew up in a family resonating in agricultural history. Born in the Barossa Valley, his family home was situated next to the Saltram Winery at Angaston. Not suprisingly at 18, Simon began his career in winemaking, serving his apprenticeship at Saltram Winery under the watchful eye of Master Winemaker, Peter Lehmann. In 1984 Simon established his own boutique winery on a hill overlooking the beautiful McLaren Vale, producing a range of rich, bold innovative wines. Yields are often very small and his entire annual production rarely exceeds 10,000 cases. Simon hand crats his red wines in small open top fermenters then gently nutures them in a combination of French and American oak Hogsheads.
