Hamilton Russell Vineyard Pinot Noir

“Few outside of Burgundy have mastered the nuances of Pinot or learned to tame it. Hamilton Russell is among the few great New World Pinots – suggestive of Burgundy and yet utterly itself.” Jay McInerney, Author and wine writer,

Hamilton Russell

One of the most southerly wine Estates in Africa, this Pinot noir and Chardonnay specialist pioneered viticulture in the beautiful, cool, maritime, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley appellation behind the old fishing village of Hermanus. Founder, Tim Hamilton Russell, purchased the undeveloped 170 hectare property in 1975, after an exhaustive search for the most southerly site on which to make South Africa’s top cool climate wines from a selection of noble varieties.

Tasting Notes

This Pinot Noir is not overtly fruity, soft and “sweet” and it generally shows hints of that alluring “primal” character along with a dark, spicy, complex primary fruit perfume.

Food Matches

Delicious with Pan-fried duck breast, creamed cabbage, chestnuts & caramelised pear
