Tenuta San Guido

Often truly great wine is the result of a singular vision and a tireless striving for perfection in one direction alone. What makes this estate interesting and inspiring is the fact that Nicolò has many interests, not least among them the breeding of racehorses, the ongoing support and maintenance of a wildlife preserve along the Maremma coast and collaboration with a Sardinian wine estate, Agricola Punica. It is perhaps this broader perspective that keeps the “superstar” more human than some of his peers in the wine world. The estate covers over 5000 acres, of which some 150 are planted with vines, in the gently rolling hills above the coast in the region surrounding the ancient village of Bolgheri and came under Nicolo’s control via his mother Clarice Della Gheradesca, whose family had owned land in the area since the 1800s.

Tasting Notes

94 points James Suckling "Fresh herbs, cedar, black raspberries, orange peel and citrus. Very balanced and focused on the palate, thanks to cutting acidity, but with firm, chewy tannins that envelop a plethora of red fruit."
