The most important characteristics of Mendel La Remota is the intensity and complexity of the fruit without domination from the wood, despite having spent some time in new barrels. Only one explanation is possible: the unmatchable quality of the terroir and the old vineyards that give origin to this singular wine.

Mendel Wines

Mendel Winery embodies the partnership of one of Argentina’s most respected and experienced winemakers, Roberto de la Mota, with an established Argentine family. Together they are dedicated to producing wines of unquestionable superior quality expressing the quality and character of their very old Malbec and Cabernet vineyards in Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina. They choose the best lots from their vineyards, and pay rigorous attention to every detail of the artisan winemaking process: from selecting parcels and picking grapes to fermentation in small tanks and aging wines in the finest French oak. Ancient vineyards, passionate people, experience and friendship are blended to create Mendel's remarkable wines.
A glass-coating bright purple colour. High complexity and intensity on the nose. It is the expression of a Malbec from Altamira, characterized by notes like exotic spices, sandalwood, violets and lavender, fresh and ripe fruits – such as black cherries, plums and blueberries. After the fruits appear spices and notes from the oak such as vanilla, chocolate, caramel and blond tobacco. Also some black liquorice notes appear at the end giving more complexity to the whole.
Try this wonderful wine with 7 hour braised leg of lamb if you can wait that long to crack it open!
Manual berry selection at the sorting table. Maceration in 50-hectoliter tanks and fermentation for 25 to 30 days. During maceration, musts were homogenized applying manual pigeage. Malolactic fermentation in barriques. Aged in new French oak barrels. Mild clarication. No ltering.

Decanter, September 2022, South American Old-Vine Reds: 93/100 points "Very attractive nose of crushed violets, smoky notes and graphite. A lovely, juicy cherry-plum burst on the mid palate. Rich texture yet with zippy freshness beneath." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 2019: 95/100 points.
