Domaine Joseph Voillot

This domaine has been producing wine now for five generations, but it is since the present owner, Jean Pierre Charlot, son-in-law of Joseph Voillot, took control that it has moved into the league of serious wine producers. The domaine consists of 10ha of vineyards, with holdings in the top vineyards of both Volnay and Pommard, including some prized sites in several 1er Crus. The grapes are partially destemmed and the wines matured in oak barrels (20-35% new) for 12-18 months.
A wonderful example of cool climate Pinot Noir, Etienne started picking these grapes on 27th August. The bouquet is fragrant, with aromas of black fruits and a refreshing whiff of wild hedgerow. The palate is intense with notes of confit jam, a touch of liquorice and soft charming tannins.
A delicious accompaniement to turkey and chicken dishes.
Hand-picked, with average vine age of 40-60 years, Pigeage is done by hand, starting at twice a day for the first 6 days, then 1 a day thereafter. A maturation for 9 months in 1-4 year old barrels follows. 20% new oak.
