A major region in the Mid Loire, situated around the town of the same name, where the Chenin Blanc grape is the principle grape used. Vouvray can be confusing, coming in a large range of styles. Always white, but ranging from crisply dry to semi sweet, to lushly sweet, and with sparkling wines across a similar stylistic range too. The soil is a unique blend of gravel and clay over deep Tuffeau layers, which retains heat and aids drainage. Vouvray can be a late harvested region, often picking continues into late autumn as the Botrytis Cinerea develops slowly due to the unique humidity.
