September Producer of the Month: Rioja Vega

Rioja Vega is not only one of the oldest Rioja Bodegas, but also one of the finest Rioja producers, who we believe offers some of the finest value for money in the region. 

Initially started as the dream of one man, Don Felipe Ugalde back in 1882, his aim was simply to be one of the country’s most prestigious Bodega’s. Ongoing growth and development over the years, involving an extremely impressive amount of investment in new equipment and a new winery in 2001, together with over 125 years of experience and knowledge, has resulted in Rioja Vega now receiving the international acclaim it so deserves.

The winery is located in the town of Viana, 10 km south-east of Logroño where 51 hectares of Tempranillo and 9 hectares of Graciano are planted around the winery. Using sustainable methods along with respect for the environment, their goal is to produce high quality grapes from low yields in modern surroundings. 

Head winemaker, Esperanza Elias is the lady responsible for the production of these very sumptuous and stylish wines, which are regularly awarded medals in wine competitions across the globe as well as accolades from the most reputed international critics and press.
