Mitchell are regarded as one of the best producers of Riesling in Australia and their wines age beautifully. Enjoy when young as a fresh citrus-led white, or age for a few years to see a mineral side come to the fore.

Mitchell Wines

Jane and Andrew Mitchell run the winery on the Mitchell family property in the western hills of South Australia’s Clare Valley in the picturesque Sevenhill region. Andrew was born on the estate and after a brief foray into economics returned with Jane, a former nurse, to establish the winery in 1975. Their home and winery started life as an old sandstone apple store. The vineyard practices are ‘Old Style’ farming with minimal intervention, no chemicals, no irrigation and biodynamic treatments. There are four vineyards at an altitude of between 300 and 450 meters, the vines age between 5 and 50 years old. Today they are joined by their son Angus.
Intense citrus aromas and dry tangy flavours that come alive in the mouth. This Riesling is a refreshing wine of poise and balance with lees contact to soften the wine. It finds enough roundness in the mouth to balance a pleasingly mineral and classically crisp, dry finish.
Great with fresh seafood. How about trying crab linguine with cherry tomatoes and chilli?

Damian Barr, Sunday Times 2015: "one of the best Rieslings from the Clare Valley… whiffs of petrol — in a good way, honest — lead to sharp citrus, then rich tropical honey. Ages well.” Sarah Ahmed, The Wine Detective, 2016: “Another exotic, expressive example, this time with anise, lychee and ginger notes to its juicy, succulent palate. The finish has a distinct quinine G&T mineral/citrus resonance. Where’s my sushi?”. Jancis Robinson, The Financial Times 2016: "...the particularly successful Mitchell, Watervale Riesling 2014 Clare Valley."
