The Wine Front, 95+ points: "I’m on bit of an NZ icons roll at the moment, what with Felton Road, KumeuRiver and I reckon I might knock out a few more Ata Rangi later. This is from Bannockburn. 31% whole bunch. 25% new oak. Can I just say again, I really love the light bottles these wines use. I’m tasting this alongside the Block 3 (which has been open for a day), and I have to say while the wines are pretty much of equal quality, and maybe the Block 3 is ‘better’, there’s just something MacMuirthat gets me in.Dark cherry, dried raspberry, earth, a sort of exotic five spice thing happening, almost to liquorice in that way too, some classic Otago notes of rosemary and sage, and iron filings (don’t mind me). It’s kind of a muscular wine, but not without freshness and a certain sappy energy, tannin has a fine stony feel, and the finish is long and nutty with a powdery grip. Charismatic and very good. Felton Road are in great form in 2025."
