White Tempranillo, or Tempranillo Blanco, is found only in Spain and was discovered in 1988 by wine grower Jesus Galilea Esteban near Rioja who noticed that one of his Tempranillo vines had undergone a mutation and consequently produced bright green bunches of grapes. Often with Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, White Tempranillo goes into the blend of many white Riojas, and has a sharp, acidic taste, full body and refreshing sensation when grown at high altitudes.
