Wines from Côtes de Provence

One of the largest appellations in the south east of the Mediterranean area, where the fierce Mistral wind cuts like a rapier through the hills and slopes annually. Consisting of 9 separate appellations/communes, over half the production is for the light, limpid crisp rosé, but some critics would argue that the rich and spicy reds are more suited to the climate, geography and culture. The climate is typically Mediterranean, the soils a mix of broken limestone, barren granite, clay and schist with terracing a feature. The grapes used are the stables of the southern Rhône, Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan, Mourvèdre and uniquely, the light Tibouren.
