May producer of the month: Mendel Wines

The outstanding winemaking talent of one of Argentina’s most respected and experienced winemakers, Roberto de la Mota, together with the high quality grapes of eighty year old vines has resulted in  a range of world class, award winning wines, which have receiving great praise from top wine critics Robert Parker, Jancis Robinson, Tim Atkin and Decanter.

The old vines are grown in the high altitude vineyards of Luján de Cuyo, which produce low yields of fruit that enjoy a lengthy ripening season.  Choosing the best lots, and paying rigorous attention to every detail of the artisan winemaking process: from selecting parcels and hand picking grapes to fermentation in small tanks and aging wines in the finest French oak, result in the production of these wonderfully elegant wines full of delightfully intense, ripe fruit flavours.

In 2003 proprietor and long-time wine lover, Anabelle Sielecki, partnered with Roberto to transform her family’s historic 1928 vineyard into the respected estate it is today. Roberto is the son of legendary Raúl de la Mota, who made Argentina’s first internationally recognized wines at Bodegas Weinert.   Working in the wine business since 1979 when he was a 19-year old apprentice to his father, Roberto received classical schooling and training in France, before establishing the Terrazzas de los Andes wine program for Bodega Chandon in 1996. After much critical acclaim, he was selected as winemaker for Cheval des Andes, an ultra-prestigious joint venture between Chandon & Bordeaux’s Chateau Cheval Blanc.

With six wines to choose from why not see for yourself why the finesse and elegance of Mendel Wines are so revered, respected and most importantly enjoyed!
