Felton Road 2025 Growing Season

We are delighted to share the release of Felton Road’s 2025 vintage, the winery’s 29th vintage from the remarkable Bannockburn vineyards.

Following the outstanding 2024 release, the 2025 vintage continues Felton Road’s exceptional run of quality, producing wines that reflect the purity, precision and individuality of each vineyard site. Crafted under the guidance of winemaker Blair Walter and with the continued vision of Nigel Greening, the wines demonstrate the balance between careful vineyard management, thoughtful winemaking and the unique expression of Bannockburn terroir. As Nigel Greening describes them, “they are slightly tauter, a bit more structured, wines that some might call more grown up. But make no mistake, these are all classic Felton Road.”

The 2025 growing season began with excellent winter rainfall, replenishing groundwater and cooling the soils ahead of the growing season. This delayed budbreak slightly, before warm spring conditions encouraged vigorous growth. A severe frost on the 3rd November brought challenges across all four vineyards, with young shoots affected, particularly at Calvert and the Chardonnay blocks at Elms. Fortunately, the vines recovered quickly, with secondary growth and a strong fruit set helping to offset the early season setback.

A long, dry summer followed, creating ideal conditions for slow, even ripening and resulting in smaller, thick skinned berries with excellent concentration. The remarkably consistent temperatures throughout the season highlighted the distinct personalities of each vineyard, with the different soil profiles shaping the pace of ripening. Harvest began on the 25th March at Cornish Point and continued through to the 15th April, allowing each parcel to be picked at optimal maturity.

The result is a vintage of classic Felton Road character, wines with energy, balance and depth combining the elegance and finesse of the Bannockburn terroir with the structure and complexity that define this estate. Despite the challenges of the season, the harvest was only 7% lower than 2024, a testament to the resilience of the vineyards and the dedication of the Felton Road team.
