Château Chasse-Spleen

This renowned property was included in the new Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel classification in 2003, and rightly so as many think it worthy of Cru Classé status. It is always extremely popular with our En Primeur buyers as it provides terrific drinking at a relatively sensible price. Produced from a yield of 50hl/ha, this is a lovely wine.
The vineyards were badly affected by hail on the 7th July, with large scale losses, yielding only 33hl/ha. The sturdy Petit Verdot survived the mildew and hail and takes a greater role in the blend this vintage. A dark, dense and richly concentrated wine, it is creamy in texture, smoky, earthy with great depth, some chocolate notes and a richly extracted structure. Cedar oak notes on the finish, this will be a popular wine with lovers of this Château.
Enjoy with sticky spiced lamb shanks and mustard mash!
Harvest dates: 22nd September - 10th October. The yield in 2023 was 33hl/ha. The vinification is carried out in stainless steel thermoregulated tanks and cement or resin-coated epoxy . Aged for 16 months in 40% new oak barrels.
