Château Rauzan-Ségla
This 43 hectare château has made major strides since its purchase by Chanel in 1994. It is fair to say that it now punches fully to its 1885 classification and is one of the great Super-Seconds. Only half of the harvest is used in the first wine of this illustrious property. The first vintage produced by new winemaker Nicolas Audebert is a resounding success.
Tasting Notes
Low yields of only 32hl/ha. Lovely rich and opulent style, almost decadent with a core of creamy black fruits, kirsch, cherry and damson fruit. There is a real kick of spice in the mid-palate, combined with subtle notes of coffee, and a streak of cassis. This is seriously good – broad, generous and integrated, with the vanilla oak structured to support and broaden the fruit and mouthfeel. To balance there is freshness in abundance, giving a real energy to the finish. Lovely!
Vinification
Aged in 60% new oak for 18 months.
