Vieux Telegraphe Rouge 2011, Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe

VTEL240
The family run Brunier estate encompasses around 70 Ha across the windswept, arid and desolate Le Crau plateau and their wines are arguably the top wines from the whole appellation. Whilst not as big and powerful as 2010, this is an absolute pleasure to taste. The careful blending of 30% whole bunch pressed fruit and 70% destalked berries, has provided a complex and balanced wine.

Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe

Vieux Télégraphe is one of the most renowned estates of the Southern Rhône. The large Domain has about 45 hectares of red grapevines planted, with an average age of around 55 years. Blessed with one of the finest locations in the area, the particularly hot microclimate is such that the Brunier Family, owners of the estate for almost a century, are able to harvest as much as a week ahead of their neighbours.

Tasting Notes

A beautiful blend between juicy succulent red cherry fruit flavours, and nicely integrated tannins with a long charming finish. Beautifully fresh with tremendous purity.

Food Matches

Enjoy with the finest cuts of red meats, lamb and even goat. Good cheese and the smellier the better!

96 points Wine & Spirits The Bruniers pull this wine from old vines planted in the complex soils of La Crau, where the layers of alluvial soil, limestone, silica and red clay are all topped with large, smooth galets. In 2011, the wine radiates life, the scent alone invigorating in its vibrancy. It smells like a vineyard, earthy, herbal, sunny and warm; the flavors follow in the same vein, lush yet restrained in its focused, complexly spiced, wild cherry taste. It’s not at all heavy, but it’s a powerful wine, able to communicate the complexity of the site in a single sip. (2/2014)
