Savagnin 2011, Domaine de Savagny

SAVA001
This rare dry white is made in the Jura region by the innovative Domaine de Savagny. This wine has a distinct character that is heading toward sherry in its nose and taste - the result of the unique way the wines are fermented and aged in open casks to promote oxidisation. This wine uses 100% local Savagnin grapes and is hand picked and made in steel tanks before blended and storing in casks that permit a little 'flor' to establish.

Domaine de Savagny

Born almost 20 years ago, the Domaine de Savagny is nestled between Château-Chalon, at the historic heart of the Jura wine-growing area, and Baume Les Messieurs, the region’s cultural hub. The wines are matured according to the Jura wine tradition, with ageing in oak barrels for all of the wines. It notably offers the two jewels in the Jura vine crown: vn jaune and straw wine. The vine plots are grouped together in the Lavigny district, in which are found terroirs with clay-limestone soils in rock-sheltered, marly plots on low slopes.

Tasting Notes

The nose is forward, ripe and attractive, with typical sherry-like characters and a hint of saline and green herbs. The palate is fresh and full, rich with apple, citrus and beeswax characters.

Food Matches

Great with local cheese, plates of charcuterie, snails in garlic or salty tapas.
