This domaine has been producing wine now for five generations, but it is since the present owner, Jean Pierre Charlot, son-in-law of Joseph Voillot, took control that it has moved into the league of serious wine producers. The domaine consists of 10ha of vineyards, including some prized sites in several 1er Crus. The grapes are partially destemmed and the wines matured in oak barrels (20-35% new) for 12-18 months. Without doubt one of the finest domaines in Volnay, these wines are never heavy or over extracted. They offer the fragrance, charm and beauty so typical of Volnay.
Intense from the very start, aromas of chocolate, cherry liqueur and forest fruits abound, with some spice – the palate continues with the
same flavours, but adds a raspberry coulis layer that freshens and adds weight and structure. This is BIG wine in all senses, with a layer of chalkdust that hints at
the minerality, a lovely fresh citric quality that adds life and overall an impression of deeply sweet, succulent and hedonistic fruit.
Try with roast duck with redcurrant jus, seasonal greens and chive butter potatoes.
