Founded in 1826 by James Henderson at the height of Wick's celebrated herring boom the Pulteney Distillery is one of the most northerly Scotch whisky distilleries on the British mainland. The spirit of Old Pulteney is inseparable from the spirit of the town it calls home - Wick. Wick was once known as the herring capital of Europe. Yet while the herring shoals may be long gone from this rugged northern coastline the spirit of that seafaring past lives on in the form of Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky - long renowned as The Maritime Malt.
Deep amber and red golden in appearance sparkling with a copper glow. The nose has medium to high intensity with a briny hint of sea air. Dry medium bodied and smooth on the palate; redolent of honey and cream faintly salty with a slight spicy note and a sweet long-lasting finish.
Surf and Turf: roasted salmon coated with toasted hazelnuts and spices, mashed potato enriched with fried crumbs of black pudding.
