Château Leoville-Las Cases 2003 2ème Cru St-Julien

LEOV125
Often called the first of the Seconds, this ground-breaking estate makes arguably the top second growth wine and in some years can command prices alongside those of the first growths. This estate of some 85 hectares, planted with a high ration of Cabernet Sauvignon and holding some of the oldest vines in the Medoc, makes a richly concentrated and finely balanced wine, capable of long term cellaring. Owned by the delon family who also own the great Château Nenin in Pomerol and the fine Château Potensac in the Medoc.

Château Léoville Las Cases

Clos du Marquis is one of those wines that carries a little confusion. It is not, in fact, the second wine of Leoville Las Cases, but a wine produced from the said property’s vineyards close to Leoville Poyferré, a more St Julien-like terroir.

Tasting Notes

Deep and dark in colour, generous and rich on the palate with a core of sweetly concentrated black fruit pastille, spice, vanilla and cedar. There is great breeding here, along with a generosity and fullness that is hedonistic and beguiling - this wine draws you in like no other!

Food Matches

Try with the best beef, lamb or pork dish you can muster - grilled or braised.
