Domaine des Rochelles
Domaine des Rochelles has been operated in the Loire Valley by the Lebreton Family since the 19th century. The Lebreton family has distinguished themselves in the Loire’s Anjou-Saumur for cultivating the most superb incarnations of Cabernet Sauvignon. While this region is best known for Cabernet Franc, ironically known as “le Breton” locally, Hubert Lebreton was the first to recognize their vineyard “La Croix de Mission” as ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon in 1962. Three generations later, his legacy lives on, and the family has become a crusading force in growing Cabernet Sauvignon on the schist soils around their native home of St-Jean- des-Mauvrets in AOCs Anjou, Anjou-Villages and Anjou-Villages-Brissac, just southeast of Angers. Jean-Yves and Anita Lebreton and their son and daughter-in-law, Jean-Hubert and Christelle, farm their vineyards sustainably and are constantly searching for new ways to improve their delicious cuvees.
90% Cabernet Sauvignon, with only 10% Cabernet Franc produces an Anjou with lots full flavoured blackcurrant fruit with a floral undertone, with an elegant structure and supple tannins. This wine can cellar for up to 10 years.
Goes well with a rare roast beef or a game pie.
